Your information
Privacy Notice
This notice explains how GreenThumb Gardening collects, uses and protects your personal information when you contact us or use the enquiry form on this website, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).
Who we are
GreenThumbGardening is a gardening and outdoor services business based in South East Cornwall. For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the data controller is GreenThumbGardening, operated by Thomas Watkins. This means we are responsible for deciding how your personal information is collected, used and protected.
If you have any questions about this notice or about how your information is handled, contact us at enquiries@greenthumbgardeningcornwall.com.
What information we collect
When you contact us or complete the quote enquiry form on this website, we may collect:
- Your name
- Your telephone number
- Your email address
- Your approximate location or postcode
- A description of the garden work you would like done
- Your preferred method of contact
- Photographs of your garden that you choose to upload
We only ask for information that is genuinely needed to understand and respond to your enquiry.
How we use your information
The information you provide is used to:
- Respond to your enquiry
- Prepare and provide a quotation
- Arrange and carry out the work you have requested
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not use it for unrelated marketing. We will only contact you about the work you have asked us about.
Our lawful bases for processing
Under UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for using your personal information. We rely on:
- Steps taken at your request before entering a contract — using your details to respond to an enquiry and prepare a quotation you have asked for.
- Contract — using your details to carry out and administer work you have booked with us.
- Legitimate interests — keeping basic records of completed work and our communications so we can run the business effectively.
- Legal obligation — keeping financial and other records that the law requires us to retain, for example for tax purposes.
How long we keep your information
If your enquiry does not lead to work, we normally delete your details and any uploaded photographs within 12 months of the enquiry, unless you ask us to remove them sooner.
If you become a customer, we keep the records relating to your work for as long as we are working with you. Financial and other legally required business records — such as invoices and payment records — may need to be retained for longer, typically up to 6 years, to meet our tax and legal obligations.
Security and service providers
We take reasonable steps to keep your information safe. Enquiry details and uploaded photographs are stored securely, with access restricted to those who need it to respond to you.
We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate this website and to store and process enquiries (for example website hosting, secure database and file storage, and email delivery). These providers process information on our behalf under appropriate safeguards and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. Some providers may process data outside the UK; where this happens, appropriate legal safeguards are in place.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate
- Ask us to delete your information, where there is no legal reason for us to keep it
- Ask us to restrict how we use your information
- Object to certain uses of your information
- Ask for your information to be provided in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, email enquiries@greenthumbgardeningcornwall.com and we will respond as soon as we can, and always within one month.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first at enquiries@greenthumbgardeningcornwall.com so we can try to put it right.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection, at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.
